On a table is a glass balloon, a balloon-shaped glass bottle about 20 liters in size. It is filled to about half of the bellied part with a variety of wine corks. In the background there is a wall with niches in which wine bottles are displayed.
How many corks are in this glass balloon?

The Innsbruck Spring Fair is over, and with it our 40th anniversary fair. There was quite a lot going on, and many of our visitors not only tasted great wines, but also took part in our anniversary guessing game. Now the results are in.

First things first - there were exactly 163 corks in the glass balloon

A total of 64 guesses were submitted. The estimated range was between 58 and 1500 corks. Most of the values submitted were around 200 corks, which is slightly higher than the actual number. Nobody guessed the exact value, but 2 estimates of 164 corks each were submitted. This made a further decision necessary - the final winner was determined by a drawing of lots from the two results.

Two pictures side by side. Andreas reaches into a paper bag with one hand and then holds the drawn lot in towards the camera.

So that the equally close but ultimately second-ranked winner is not too disappointed, we have decided to double the prize for second place. So the prize will be two instead of one magnum bottle.

Winners are

The winners will of course be notified by us. Many thanks to everyone else for taking part. We are already looking forward to the next fair. Then in the 41st year and hopefully in many more.
